Drug Treatment Resources and Detox Options

There is no single treatment or route to getting all the help you need. In fact, seeking drug treatment can be a rather daunting task, and you may not know where to begin. You may ask a friend who has suffered from an addiction, but most likely, you will start researching available treatment options online. Drug treatment options will likely include 30 to 90-day rehab centers, detox centers, outpatient treatment, and medical detoxification.

First and foremost, you must determine the level of care that will best suit your health needs. If you are using opioids, alcohol, or benzos, you will probably need to go through a medically assisted detoxification. Because, without proper inpatient medical care, detoxing can be dangerous and even life-threatening. The good news is that there are many drug treatment resources online that you can use to evaluate the level of care, professional medical experience, and other important factors to you.

Alcohol and Opioid Drug Treatment Resources

Acknowledging addiction and committing to treatment is the most important phase but often the most difficult. There are countless options for alcohol and opioid drug treatment. You might find medical detoxification providers, rapid opiate detox providers, drug and alcohol treatment centers, rehabs, and outpatient recovery centers all listed together in a single directory. However, the process of becoming opioid or alcohol-free is different for each person. It’s most important that you find the treatment program that will meet your individual needs.

How to Choose A Drug Treatment Program

Once you determine the type of drug treatment that best suits your needs and goals, you can narrow your search. In many cases, this may be a detox program with continued care at an inpatient treatment program. Besides the necessary detoxification treatment provided, you will need to determine what other services and options are most important. It can seem overwhelming because the search results are endless. Therefore, consider the following to help further reduce your search:

  • Using insurance vs. privately paying
  • Amount of time you can take away from work, family, etc., for treatment.
  • Private room vs. shared space
  • Reputation
  • Level of medical care desired: medical facility vs. minimal medication and monitoring.
  • History of medical conditions that might require monitoring or additional treatment (i.e., diabetes, pancreatitis, high blood pressure)
  • Level of emotional support needed
  • Additional amenities offered

The next step is to properly evaluate the programs that offer the type of treatment with the services you are seeking. Since you now know the kind of care you require, you can review their websites and call for a consultation.

You can use the following list to survey potential drug treatment programs and make your selection:

  • Will a physician treat me?
  • Does the detox take place in a hospital?
  • How long has the facility been in practice?
  • What are the success rates?
  • Do they prescribe maintenance drugs, or will I have detoxified completely? (opioids only)
  • What types of medications are prescribed after detox?
  • Will I receive individual psychotherapy?
  • Will I be required to attend 12-step meetings?
  • How long does addiction treatment last?
  • How am I going to feel during treatment?
  • Can I get treated confidentially?
  • Will I have my own room?
