Opiates.com is a free educational resource about opioid dependence, withdrawal, and recovery. The site does not sell goods or services, does not offer or arrange medical treatment, does not accept patients, does not process transactions, and is not connected to any physical facility open to the public. It exists to make information freely available to anyone who wants it.
We want that information to be usable by as many people as possible, including people who use screen readers, keyboard navigation, screen magnification, captioning, or other assistive technology.
Access to any website can be difficult for people with disabilities, and every person’s needs are different. What works well for one visitor may create obstacles for another. We make efforts to accommodate as many visitors as is reasonable given the size and resources of this site, and we treat accessibility as ongoing work rather than a finished state.
The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) define requirements for making web content more accessible to people with disabilities. WCAG 2.2 is the current version, published by the World Wide Web Consortium in October 2023. Level AA is the level most commonly referenced in policy and law.
We use WCAG 2.2 Level AA as our reference standard. This site has not undergone a formal third-party accessibility audit, and we do not claim full conformance with that standard. Content on this site was published over a period of many years, and some of it may not meet the standard in every respect. We identify and address issues as we learn about them.
Accessibility on this site has been reviewed informally, using automated checking tools and feedback received from visitors. It has not been evaluated by an independent accessibility auditor. If that changes, this statement will be updated with the date and scope of the evaluation.
This site includes a third-party accessibility widget from UserWay, located in the lower-left corner of each page. Clicking the icon opens a menu with options such as text resizing, contrast adjustment, and link highlighting. Allow the menu a moment to finish loading after you open it.
This widget is provided as an additional convenience. It is not a substitute for an accessible website, and we do not represent that it makes this site conformant with any standard. It is operated by a third party, we do not control how it functions, and it may not work for every visitor or every type of disability. If it interferes with your assistive technology rather than helping, please tell us.
This site uses third-party components for certain functions, which may include embedded media, social media elements, and analytics. We do not control the internal structure of these components and cannot modify them to accommodate every visitor. We are not responsible for elements of third-party services that are outside our control.
Most web browsers and operating systems include built-in accessibility features, and additional assistive tools are available from third parties. These are often more capable than anything an individual website can provide.
Where this site includes video, we aim to provide captions or a text equivalent. If you find a video without captions or an accessible alternative, please tell us using the contact information below and we will work to provide one.
If you have difficulty using any part of this site because of a disability, or if you encounter a barrier we should know about, please email info@opiates.com.
It helps if you can describe the problem in as much detail as possible, including the page you were on, what you were trying to do, and the assistive technology you were using, if any.
We aim to acknowledge accessibility messages within five business days. This site is maintained by a small team, and we address reported issues as promptly as our resources allow.
You are not required to identify yourself or to describe your disability in order to report a problem. You do not need to give your name, address, telephone number, or any other information about yourself beyond what is needed for us to understand the issue. If you email us, we will necessarily have your email address, and we use it only to respond to your message.
The resources below are provided for convenience. This site has not reviewed or tested them, does not endorse them, and expresses no opinion on any statement made by these third parties.

We expect to make changes to this site over time, including changes affecting accessibility. Progress depends on what we learn about the difficulties visitors encounter, on available resources, and on improvements in technology. Suggestions are welcome at info@opiates.com.
