The Waismann Method would like to acknowledge and recognize the positive strides being made in Utah towards the prevention of prescription drug abuse and proper disposal of unused medications.
Over the past month, Utah County health officials have obtained approximately 892 pounds of prescription drugs (the equivalent of more than 92,000 pills and an estimated street value of $2.6 million) during organized “take back” events, designed to dispose of unused prescription medication. Possibly even more important, are the education efforts by these same officials as more than 1,600 pamphlets featuring critical information about prescription drug abuse and the importance of properly disposing of medication were also distributed to individuals and families who came out to the 10 hosted “take back” events.
Again, we congratulate local and regional health officials for their efforts in the growing epidemic of opiate misuse and encourage other communities to get involved in taking action against proper disposal of prescription medication and education on the potential dangers of keeping unused pills in your home.
