Oregon Detoxification Information

The misuse of methadone is one of the top concerns for officials in this Pacific Northwest state. While it can be used to relieve moderate to severe pain, this opiate (narcotic) analgesic is better known as a long-term maintenance therapy for opiate addiction. Methadone produces similar effects to other opiate drugs and helps prevent withdrawal in those taking it to get off or stay off opiates such as heroin and OxyContin. This is not always the best treatment course for opiate dependence because it too can be habit forming. The U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration said in 2008 that rates of methadone use had increased dramatically. Hydrocodone and oxycodone are other pharmaceutical drugs that are prone to diversion, trafficking and abuse, according to a state factsheet released by the DEA. Hydrocodone is used in combination drugs with other ingredients such as acetaminophen and is a highly potent opioid. Drugs that contain hydrocodone include Vicodin, Lortab and Lorcet. Oxycodone is included in OxyContin, Percocet and Percodan.

So how are Oregonians getting their hands on these medications? For many, they are a medical necessity. Many people who become dependent do so after developing a tolerance for their medication and increasing their use. Others may take these drugs recreationally. The DEA said popular methods of diversion in Oregon include unscrupulous websites that sell medication without requiring a prescription. Others are illegal prescribing and dispensing by healthcare officials, prescription forgery, doctor shopping, theft, pharmacy burglaries and illegal dispensing by pharmacies.

Waismann Method

Untreated substance abuse costs Oregon $5.93 billion each year in healthcare, lost earnings, law enforcement, criminal justice and social welfare, according to The Governor’s Council on Alcohol and Drug Abuse Programs. For more than a decade, residents of Oregon and people from around the world have turned to Waismann Method for rapid opiate detox. Our program is renowned for its safe and humane treatment of opiate dependence. Waismann Method uses a procedure that involves the use of non-addicting intravenous medicine that cleanses the opiates from patients’ systems in less than two hours. Patients are sedated during this time with general deep sedation. They awaken a short time later and are not consciously aware that they have already experienced withdrawal. Our procedure accelerates withdrawal and symptoms develop and pass while patients are sedated. Patients can decide to return home after a stay that’s approximately 5 to 6 days. Others transition with us at our Domus Retreat aftercare facility.
