Percocet Side Effects

Percocet, the combination of oxycodone and acetaminophen, can cause side effects with use. This is true of all prescription medications though each person’s experience can be different. Percocet side effects can range from common to more serious and include nausea, vomiting and sleeplessness. The narcotic pain reliever is used to treat moderate to severe pain and can be taken safely and successfully by many patients. However, it can lead to numerous problems including the development of tolerance, physical and psychological dependence, overdose, withdrawal symptoms and the need for medically-assisted detoxification. Percocet Side Effects Can Range from Mild to Severe

Some widely reported side effects associated with Percocet include constipation which can be severe, weakness, trouble sleeping, nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, tingling or redness of the skin and blurred vision. It should be taken exactly as prescribed to avoid serious effects. Altering the dose in any way can be dangerous. Those who have been addicted to alcohol or drugs can be more prone to Percocet addiction. Taking it with alcohol can cause a dangerous reaction including slowed breathing. Drowsiness can be magnified by patients who take it with other narcotics, allergy medication, tranquilizers and sleeping pills. Dizziness and drowsiness can also occur, so patients are urged to take it cautiously when driving or performing other potentially dangerous tasks. An allergic reaction is also possible with Percocet and signs include rash, wheezing, difficult breathing, closing of the throat, hives or swelling of the lips, face, tongue or throat. Percocet use can lead to dependence and addiction, two serious side effects that bring with them a withdrawal phase that can be difficult to manage alone.
