experience withdrawal symptoms.
Norco (trade name for a combination of hydrocodone
and acetaminophen) is a narcotic pain reliever
that has a high potential for abuse and addiction.
It is comprised of 5, 7.5 or 10 mg. of hydrocodone
and 325 mg of acetaminophen. Used to treat
moderate to severe pain, Norco is also branded
under the names Lorcet, Lortab and Vicodin.
Norco Uses
Hydrocodone is a narcotic pain reliever and
acetaminophen is a non-narcotic, less potent
pain reliever that increases the effects of
hydrocodone.
Norco comes in capsule, tablet and liquid
form, and doctors recommend taking it every
4-6 hours as needed. The opiate blocks the
transmission of pain in the brain and spinal
cord.
Norco Warnings
Anyone who has more than three alcoholic drinks
per day or cirrhosis of the liver should talk
to a doctor before taking any medication with
acetaminophen. An overdose of acetaminophen
can cause serious harm to the liver.
The maximum recommended amount of acetaminophen
for an adult is 1,000 mg per dose and 4,000
mg in a day. Do not combine any prescription
drug with acetaminophen with any over-the-counter
medications containing it. Doctors recommend
knowing the amount of acetaminophen in each
medication you take. Do not take Norco if you
are allergic to either of its active ingredients.
Hydrocodone can be habit-forming. Prolonged
or inappropriate use of Norco can cause physical
dependence, and tolerance to the drug can develop.
Norco can cause side effects that impair reactions
and thought processes. Care should be taken
when driving or performing other tasks that
require you to be alert. Norco can pass through
breast milk and may be harmful to fetuses.
The opiate can cause addiction, withdrawal
and breathing problems in newborn babies.
Opiates, including Norco, are known to cause
constipation in users, sometimes severe. Increasing
water consumption can help alleviate a sluggish
bowel.
